Accepted Insurance Plans

Coverage: Most health insurance plans cover physical therapy services, but the extent of coverage can vary. It’s important to check with your specific insurance provider to understand what is covered under your plan.

Referrals: Some insurance plans may require a referral from a physician for physical therapy services to be covered. Always verify with your insurance provider if a referral is necessary.

Doctor Referral Not Required

Although we recommend that most patients obtain a physician’s referral before starting therapy, it’s not required.

Direct Access Requirements

  • Direct Access: Michigan allows for restricted direct access to physical therapy. This means you can see a physical therapist without a physician’s prescription or referral for up to 10 visits or 21 days, whichever comes first.
  • Extended Care: If you need physical therapy beyond the initial 10 visits or 21 days, a physician’s referral will be required to continue treatment.

For more detailed information, you can visit the Michigan Board of Physical Therapy or the APTA Michigan websites.
